Madeira is an amazing Portuguese archipelago, incredible place to visit. Madeira is also known by the island of eternal spring because is expect pleasant temperatures pretty much all year. This is a fantastic island with plenty of places to go and a lot of activities to do.

I spent 5 lovely days last June enjoying Madeira and my objective is to share my adventure and all itinerary ideas that I had planned. I'm so lucky because I have the opportunity to visit all this pretty places around the world. Madeira was amazing for us! I will give you a lot of relevant information, a very detailed guide with the best places to go, how to travel around the island, where to stay, what to eat and drink and a few more useful tips. Are you ready?

As I mention before, Madeira doesn't have significant changes regards the weather. Temperatures are nicely stable during all year. Although, the most sunny and dry weather is anything between March and September.

For sure the best option for you to make the most out of your holiday is renting a car. Rent a car is relatively easy and cheap. You have plenty of rent a car places and you can book online with good deals. You just need to spend a bit of your time searching in advance. I really don't know about public transports, but I read that works well. The island is full of tunnels, steep driveways and sharp curves. Good news are that the roads in general are very good and we found I safe place to drive.

We stayed in Funchal and we found very helpful and a brilliant idea. Funchal has got a lot of restaurants and nice bars. Staying in the city center allowed us to walk easily to pretty much everywhere and we could leave the car parked. We had relax dinners without being worried about driving back home. As everywhere you will find different accommodations for all budgets. I'm even more lucky because I have a few friend from Madeira and they gave me excellent advises about all that I needed to enjoy the most of Madeira.I did use https://www.booking.com/ to find the best deals with good promotions. We end up staying in https://www.savoysignature.com/royalsavoyhotel/en/. Free park, private bathroom, cute balcony with sea view and an amazing pool in front of the sea. The breakfast was included and we slept here all the 5 nights.

What to see?

So much to see in Madeira and I could easily stay fore more than week exploring around. I'm working on a more detailed itinerary so feel free to send an email or subscribe my website and ask for more details. I will be more than happy to send it to you directly to your mailbox.

  • Pico do Arieiro - Please get up early and drive about 30 minutes from Funchal up to about 1800 meters above the sea level.

  • Cabo Girão - The views from this point are absolutely amazing. It's usually packed with a lots of tourists, be prepared. Although you must go!

  • Ponta do Pargo

  • Porto Moniz - On the western part of the island and is something unique. you find here lava pools filled with turquoise clear water from the ocean converted in kind of SPA . For entrance a small fee needs to be paid (1.50€). Here you can swim and enjoy the sun. We weren't lucky enough to have sun, but still very beautiful.

  • Traditional houses in Santana - One of the most popular attractions in the island. It's very traditional and a good spot for nice pictures. But I was a bit disappointed because I was expected seeing more than a few iconic houses.

  • Ponta de São Lourenço - This amazing trail allow you to explore the best of pure nature scenarios. If you like nature and hike this is one of the best options. Get ready and don't miss this fantastic opportunity to make the 8 km trial with spectacular coastal views. As a little pleasure at the end you can swim in the clear water. You will find a cafe at the of the trial although just cash is accept.

  • Curral das Freiras

  • Machico Beach

  • Lavradores Market

  • Teleférico Botanic Garden

  • Carreta Beach

  • Ponta do Sol

  • D. Maria Street

  • Câmara de Lobos

What to eat and dink? Where to eat and drink?
